Help regarding motor selection

My requirement is for a linear actuator where the carriage can be freely moved when the motor is not powered (minimal detent torque). The max motor torque required for the assembly is about 0.8 Nm (7 lb-in). What type of motor should i be looking for?
Currently I am using a NEMA 24 hybrid stepper motor of 1.8 Nm with a electromagneic clutch, but now i am trying to make the assembly more compact.

Hi Abe,

For linear actuators if positioning is important we recommend using a stepper motor. When not paired with a power off type brake they can be moved when not powered but if its a vertical application we recommend using a brake to hold position if power is lost. The detent torque on our motors is 2-5% as a reference value.
