Switching Gearheads, Gearboxes

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Fri Oct 22, 2010 5:54 pm

Q: Are your motors' gearheads interchangeable?

A: Yes and no. You can switch out gearheads from our AC motors and brushless DC motors for a different gear ratio, but the next gearhead will have to be the same size and type. The part numbers for the gearheads will be very similar. For example, if you have a 4GN25KA gearhead (25:1), and you wish to switch to a 30:1 gearhead for a little more torque, and can accept a slightly slower speed, then you would buy 4GN30KA. However, you cannot switch out gearheads on our step motors. First reason is that it's very difficult to take our step motor and gearhead apart because of the way we assemble them. Second reason is that our step motors are very carefully assembled with its gearheads to maintain our backlash and accuracy specifications. Even if you could take our step motor and gearhead apart, warranty will be void, and we will not be able to guarantee backlash, accuracy, nor expected life. For reference, our general catalog and website both show the breakdown of package model numbers to its component numbers. Let us know if you need any help.
