Synchronous Motors & Right-Angle Gearheads

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Mon Sep 27, 2010 4:42 pm

Q: Can I use one of your AC synchronous motors with your right-angle gearheads?

A: Unfortunately no. Since AC synchronous motors typically have a lower rated torque than standard AC motors, it may not have sufficient torque to drive the right-angle gearhead and its load properly. The gears inside our right-angle gearheads have higher friction thus also increasing the motor's torque requirement. Therefore, we do not feel confident in recommending synchronous motors with right-angle gearheads. We would recommend using parallel gearheads with our AC synchronous motors, or right-angle gearheads with our standard AC motors or brushless DC motor systems like the AXU series (if you are looking for similar speed accuracy of the synchronous motors).
