Controlling Speed of AC Synchronous Motors

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Wed Jan 12, 2011 7:09 pm

Q: How do I control the speed of your AC synchronous motors and SMK series low-speed synchronous motors?

A: Our synchronous motor's speed is synchronized with its input frequency; thus the name "synchronous". Unfortunately, we do not offer a speed/frequency controller for our AC synchronous motors. Since they are single-phase AC motors, you will need to source a variable frequency transformer / variable frequency drive with a single-phase output. Keep in mind that we have not tested our AC motors with these devices. If you want to play it safe, then I would suggest looking at one of our brushless DC motor systems, which also offer superior speed stability and control. For example, our BX series brushless motor & driver package can offer +/- 0.05% maximum speed fluctuation even with changes to load and voltage.
