Magnet Material

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Wed Nov 28, 2012 5:28 pm

Q: What type of magnets do you use in your step motors?

A: We used to use AlNiCo Aluminum-Nickel-Cobalt magnets for our older PH series step motors, then we switched to SmCo Samarium-Cobalt magnets for the older PK series step motors. However, nearly all of our current standard step motors now are using an even stronger and smaller rare earth magnet - NdFeB Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets for higher torque output while minimizing space requirements. This information is subject to change without notice.

The graph below shows the oersted ratings of each type of magnet. Oersted is a unit of measurement for magnetic field strength.
